“A precious one from us has gone, a voice we loved stilled: a place is vacant in our hearts, a void which can never be filled. After a lonely heartache and many silent tears, we forever have beautiful memories of the one we love dear.”
Jerlene Banks, affectionately known as "Momma, mama Banks" to her children, "Big momma, grandma" to her grandchildren, and "Aunt Jerlene" to her nieces and nephews, was born in Queen City, TX, to the late Eljah and Minnie Banks on November 5, 1943. She was the youngest of six children. God blessed Jerlene Banks with 81 years of life. God was merciful and called Sister Banks home on Monday, August 04, 2025.
She accepted Christ 35 years ago. She was a member of Hendrix Temple COGIC of Atlanta, TX, and was a faithful member until her health failed her.
She attended Queen City schools and received her GED while attending night School. The joys in her life were her family and friends. She also liked to cook. Jerlene was a single mom and worked hard to take care of her children.
Jerlene was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah and Minnie Banks, her daughter, Sharon Ann Banks, and all her siblings, Bobby Collins, Norrisdell, Gloria T Castleberry, Ruby Mack, and Oteria Banks {sisters}
She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, James Banks {Charmion} Forney, TX, and Eddie Banks, Columbus, OH. A special daughter, Josie Banks, Atlanta, TX. Eight grandchildren. Demond Dickerson, Jamaal Banks, Devin Hammond, Faith, Charity, Elijah, Destinee, and Isaiah Banks. Ten great grands, a host of relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends.
